I've used wikis for a few projects with a few different groups, with varying success. It's handy to have things accessible by a group, but everyone actually has to use it; I've seen alot of wiki pages started that just fall by the wayside... The other down side is that things can quickly get cluttered and unorganized, but I guess that's more an issue of not figuring out ground rules at the start.
Wikis aren't my favorite tool, but I'd use them again in future if the situation called for it.
